The Curriculum at Kenton Bar Primary School
At Kenton Bar Primary School, our broad and balanced curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning and develop continuity and progression in skills and knowledge.
In our Early Years Foundation Stage, our stimulating, creative and inspiring curriculum, focused around the prime and specific areas for learning, is centred on the characteristics of effective learning and captures the individual interests of the children.
In Key Stages 1 and 2, we have a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations.
Our curriculum is underpinned by a series of key themes, which we call our drivers, which inform the choices we make regarding our curriculum and drive our aspirations for them. We use these ‘drivers’ to underpin the direction and development of all areas of school life and to ensure our curriculum is enriched and personalised in order to meet the needs, interests and ambitions of our children and their families.
A focus upon the acquisition of basic skills underpins our whole curriculum, for without the ability to read and write and apply basic mathematical concepts to problems, children will be unable to access any other form of learning.
